UPDATE COVID-19 5/5/20

Napi staff are continuing to work towards the government guidelines, all Napi staff are working from home and supporting children, families, toddler group leaders, childcare settings and childminders through emails and phone calls.

The toy library is closed until the government says it safe to reopen.

If you need any support please phone or email the usual NAPI contact and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

NAPI will continue to follow the latest Government advice regarding COVID-19, and we will respond to any updated advice as received.
Currently we have advised Toddler groups to adhere to government advice, check before you go in case they are closed.
The Toy Library is operating as usual.

Following Government advice, if you have NEW symptoms (from 12 March) of coronavirus infection (COVID-19), however mild, stay at home and do not leave your house for seven days from when your symptoms started.
Stay at home for seven days if you have either:
• a high temperature
• a new continuous cough
This will help to protect others in your community while you are infectious.
Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.
You do not need to contact NHS 111 to tell them you’re staying at home. Public Health will not be testing those self-isolating with mild symptoms.

Newcastle Action for Parent and Toddler Groups Initiative (NAPI) has been working since 1995 to raise the profile of parent and toddler groups and increase the amount of support available to them.

NAPI works with adults and children under 5 to provide access to appropriate quality services which:

  • Develop happier confident parents who are able to make choices for themselves and their families
  • Move children through their stages of development in order to promote their confidence, skills,self esteem and emotional well being.
  • Promote the value of play
  • Promotes Inclusion
In order that these adults and children can:
  • Engage and connect with their communities
  • Have a smooth transition through their education and do well at school
  • Become financially self sufficient

NAPI offers advice,information,support and a listening ear from a qualified and experienced staff team to ensure happy,safe,well resourced and welcoming environments.

In order to do this NAPI provides:

  • A Project Manager to provide a legal framework for the organisation and to co-ordinate the delivery of all services.
  • A team of Parent and Toddler Support Workers
  • A team of Toy Librarians
  • A team of Inclusion Workers
  • A team of Play Practitioners
What is a Parent and Toddler Group?

It is an informal group of adults who care for children under 5 who meet together in their local communities.Groups provide:
  • A range of play activities for children which help them in their early stages of develoment.
  • Peer support for adults from others who have similar experiences
Groups vary in size, resources, volunteers and finance.Parent and Toddler groups welcome children and adults whatever their religion, culture, ability and means.

What is a Toy Library? 

Visit the toy library section of this site for a full explanation of all NAPI's toy library services.A new toy library service for parents will be launched on 14th September 2016. Little Borrowers's Playtime will run every Wednesday afternoon (1.00-2.30pm) in term time. Parents will be able to borrow up to 4 toys for 4 weeks.The session will cost £2 (plus 50p for each extra child)

What is an Inclusion Worker?

NAPI provides a team of workers who work with individual children with additional needs/disabilities to help them attend mainstream Pre-school provision.Worker time is also allocated following an application process by the Pre-school.

What is a Play Practitioner? 

Play Practitioners work in a targeted area. Currently staff work as part of the central team of Newcastle Community Family Hub.They offer play sessions, baby socials,home birth visits and one to one play sessions. Play Practioners are part of the 1001 crictical days team.
